About

As the tagline says, this site is about “making pictures happen.”  More specifically, it’s about making pictures happen with what you have available.  That might be a high-end DSLR, but more often it’s a camera phone or a small point-and-shoot camera.  Everything that’s written here is either about making that picture happen with what you have, supporting that goal with education, or showing the results of hard work.

About Me

I started this site as an exercise in personal improvement.  When I originally started it, just a few short months before this writing, it was intended to be a repository of my learning.  I used sentences like “one of the quickest ways to learn is to teach” and “you get to learn along with us.”  Fancy words for saying “I need to write some of this stuff down before I forget it.”

My motivation is fairly selfish.  I have a young daughter, and I used to be extremely disappointed in the results I used to get from my cameras.  I’ve put in four years of fairly intensive learning in the technical and artistic fields of photography purely to get better pictures of my little girl.  And no, you won’t be seeing (well focused or up close) photos of her here.

So that’s the site.  If you want to learn more about me professionally, please check out E.W. Consulting.
